Gerraquoy Organic Farm

For many of our guests staying on the farm is an important part of their holiday, so much so that some guests have even taken part in routine tasks around the farm such as feeding the calves or driving the cattle.  We emphasise that these activities are entirely voluntary!  But the farm is a working one, albeit small at only 5.7 ha (15 acres).  Although we are not self-sufficient we produce our own organic beef and eggs, and have access to locally reared pork and lamb, so that the farmhouse food that we serve is fresh and tasty.

We keep a small herd of native Shetland cattle, which is one of the rarest breeds in the UK, and work closely with one of our organic farming neighbours, Michael and Cristina Roberts of Wheems organic farm, to graze an additional area of herb-rich coastal machair at Manse Bay (thanks also to landowners Clive and Gill Strutt).  This is a beautiful spot and one which our guests always enjoy visiting.  The photographs below show Gerraquoy farmhouse.
