Renewable Technology
Orcadian Wildlife & Gerraquoy Organic Farm use three major types of
renewable technology to make your stay with Orcadian Wildlife tours or the Peedie House self-catering easier on your carbon footprint:

 |
We have two Evance R9000 5KW wind turbines installed in one of
our fields: one turbine helps to power our farmhouse (Orcadian Wildlife's base);
whilst the other powers our Peedie House self-catering cottage. Both
turbines are set to produce nearly 20,000 KW hours each of clean green energy
of which we aim to export half to our energy supplier Good Energy (see
www.goodenergy.co.uk). The
wind turbines were commissioned on 2 July 2011 and installed by Alternative
Energy Contracting Ltd (see www.bae.uk.net).

 |
Gerraquoy farmhouse (Orcadian Wildlife's base) is heated by a
9 KW ground source heat pump (type Dimplex SI 9ME) which provides central
heating and hot water for our family and guests. The ground source heat
pump was installed in October 2010 by Steven R Paterson Ltd. of Orkney (see
www.stevenpaterson.co.uk).

Gerraquoy farmhouse (Orcadian Wildlife's base) has two
solar panels mounted on its south-facing roof; and the Peedie House
self-catering has one solar panel mounted on its south-facing roof; all of which
help to heat the hot water required in these properties. The Peedie
House panel was installed in April 2007; the Gerraquoy farmhouse panels were
installed in May 2010 (all installation done by ourselves). |
All electricity supplied at the Gerraquoy properties is provided
by Good Energy and is from 100% guaranteed renewable sources. The
photographs below show the installation of the two wind turbines on 2 July 2011.

We have agreed to be a case study for renewable technology on
behalf of the Energy Savings Trust - please feel free to contact us should
you wish further details on any aspects of the above renewable technology
installed at Gerraquoy.
